Dear AGBC members, friends and guests,
It has already been an exciting year as the United States inaugurated President Barack Obama, the first African-American President in our history. All Americans wish their new government well in these difficult times. The AGBC, naturally, takes a non-partisan approach on political topics.
Yet 2009 is also a time for hope as opportunities reveal themselves in such stressful years. We take great pride in American optimism and the country's ability to work our way out of a rut and back into a multi-lateral leadership role. Certainly this is a time to forge a non-partisan approach to problem solving.
In Germany many Americans have received congratulations from our non-American colleagues, as if the hope and confidence in the U.S. will extend across the Atlantic and positively affect other countries. Certainly nothing will come easy, not in the US nor in Europe itself, as industrial countries readjust to the new economic realities.
We in the AGBC are also optimistic, with our newest chapter opening in Hamburg this year and hosting our national membership meeting this May (see website for details). The planned program also offers all of us a great chance to network with all other AGBC chapters, their officers and members.
It will also be time to select my successor as national president. I have gladly served in this role for the past three years. I am very thankful for all the wonderful people I have met and who supported me during this time. Initiating the Entrepreneurs-of-Tomorrow program remains a highlight for me. I was honored being asked to take over the responsibility from former President Dennis Phillips who had to undergo a fortunately successful liver transplant. However, professional and personal reasons now mean the time has come for me to step down and for someone else to take on the challenges ahead. Thus we have requested every chapter to consider nominating an AGBC member to fill this position, with the election set for May 23rd in Hamburg.
I plan to remain active in Frankfurt, but definitely in the background. It is time for another active business executive to step up and take on this responsibility, generating new ideas for the years to come. I offer him or her my full support and best wishes for continued success.
Please plan to join us in Hamburg this May for this eventful national membership meeting, open to all AGBC members and their families. Select a new president and network, all on the same weekend. Networking is the basis of this club.
Sincerely,
Robert Stoffers
