U.S. Citizens! Register & Vote!

Deadline by early October

The AGBC has a Voting Assistance Officer with a VAGuide, listing every voting register in each county in each state. Either go to the website "www.fvag.org" or else contact Dennis Phillips at "communications@agbc.de" for further details.

Most states require potential voters to register via a Federal Post Card Application no later than one month prior to the Nov. 4, 2008, election. Every U.S. citizen who will be 18 yrs. old by Election Day has a right to register. Some also view this as our responsibility, since every vote counts! Register now, and if you are not sure, then re-register to let your voting registrar know you are alive and well and living in Germany!

On June, 1948, the Soviet Union initiated the Berlin Blockade, demanding all rail and road traffic leading into Berlin, from West Germany, to cease. The blockade prevented Germans in Berlin from receiving food and supplies leaving them hungry and powerless. In response to this communist scare tactic, the United States Military launched the Berlin Airlift in July 1948, delivering over 1,783,573 tons of food and supplies to Berlin over the course of 15 months.

American-German Business Club Awards € 4,500 in Scholarship Funds

Got a good money-making idea? All you need is a solid business plan to get your idea to the market place. That is the basic premise behind the American-German Business Club's "Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow" program. The best "Business Plan" (all in English) from about twenty young (16 to 21 year old) German high school and university students will be selected this Saturday, 31 May, at the European Business School (EBS), Oestrich-Winkel. The jury, all either entrepreneurs or business professors, will judge which of business plans was best presented, considering financing and start-up costs, qualifies as the best "Entrepreneur of Tomorrow". The winner and runner-up will receive cash prizes, valued at €1,500, as well as a trip to Berlin to compete in the AGBC's national finals.

Dear AGBC Members, Friends and Guests,

In 2008, Daylight Saving Time begins in the US on Sunday, March 9th, and in Europe on Sunday, March 30th. During those three weeks, time zone differences between most of the US and Europe are one hour less than usual.

It just occurred to me, that while globalization is progressing rapidly, time zones may seem to be out of date in times of the internet, new media and modern international business. Yet, people in China are almost through the day while I am getting started, checking in the morning how the business day ended in New York. Can we really move
